Hardrocker soccer to hold Winter Skills Academy

RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's soccer team will be holding a Winter Soccer Skills Academy in Rapid City for boys and girls ages 9-14. The Winter Skills Academy is a six-week, hour and a half session starting in February and running through the middle of March.

The cost of the Academy is $90 for six sessions and will be held at the King Center on the campus of South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City.

The purpose of the sessions is to improve individual skill development through demonstration and instruction by Hardrocker soccer head coach Joe Burger, assistant coach Luke Schweitzer and current members of the SD Mines men's soccer team.

Soccer youths will be taught skills including: change of direction, forward moves, individual technique, one-on-one, two-on-one, two-on-two and creative learning through application of skills in planned progressive activities.

The sessions will be divided into three groups: age U9-U10 boys and girls, U11-U12 boys and girls and U13-U14 boys and girls. The U9-U10 sessions are Feb. 8, 15, 22, March 1, 8, and 15 starting each date at 7 p.m. The U11-U12 group and U13-U14 groups will hold sessions Feb. 10, 17, 24, March 3, 10 and 17. The U11-U12 group starts at 2 p.m. and the U13-U14 sessions start at 4 p.m.
